Loralee Pillsbury to run for Capac School Board

Hi, my name is Loralee Pillsbury and I am running for the Capac School Board. I was inspired to run for the school board by Mr. Rees and Mr. Warnez at the January parent involvement meeting. Mr. Warnez talked about communication between the parents and the board. I thought that he had a very good point. A lot of us do not know what is going on in our school system. I would like to become one of those that know what is going on and why something is happening or happened. I would like the opportunity to do what I can to keep our school district running positively. I have two children ages five and seven. They are just starting out in this school district and I care very deeply about the level of education that they will need to succeed.

I graduated from Northern Michigan University with a Bachelors Degree in Education. I am certified in K-8 with endorsements in math and science. I taught 7-8th grade math and summer school from 1998-1999. I then had the opportunity to move to Colorado where I met my husband. He was in the army, so we had to move about every two years. While we were in Mississippi, I was a substitute teacher in the Hattiesburg and Purvis school districts. When he was in Korea, I came back to Michigan to live and I subbed for Birch Run, Mt Morris, and Atherton School Districts.

I strongly believe in parental involvement not only in the school system but in all activities that the kids participate in. This is why I am the registrar and a coach for the AYSO, secretary for the cub scouts, the Daisy Girl Scouts Leader, and I just began to teach math for the after school PEAK program.

I would like for anyone to be able to come up to me and tell me your concerns for the school district. If I know why something is happening, I will explain the reasoning behind it. When I hear a new concern, then I will bring it to the board’s attention and try my best to see that it is resolved. I hope that my past experiences and my present actions will give you the confidence to support me for the election.
